STONE SOUR Frontman Talks About Upcoming Covers EP/Concert DVD Package
According to The Pulse Of Radio, STONE SOUR frontman Corey Taylor did an extensive interview with HardDrive Radio in which he revealed that the band is definitely planning to release a concert DVD and cover songs EP in one package sometime before the end of the year. Taylor went into detail about the project, saying,
"We shot a concert last year on the co-headlining tour that we did with AVENGED SEVENFOLD, and we shot it in Brighton (England), and we've been trying to get it together ever since and it's just been insane. There's been so much work and we just haven't had a chance to kind of get a handle on it. But we've been talking about doing a covers EP forever. This is just a kind of a cool way to put something cool out that the fans will dig."

Taylor added that each member of STONE SOUR will get to pick one song for the covers EP.

The singer also said that the recent run of European festival shows he did with SLIPKNOT have warmed up him more to the idea of the group making a new record, but still cautions that it's not happening anytime soon.

Taylor did say that SLIPKNOT will do some more touring, possibly in the U.S. this time around.

Taylor is promoting his new book, "Seven Deadly Sins - Settling The Argument Between Born Bad And Damaged Good", by doing appearances where he reads, performs a few songs and signs copies of the book. He also has some solo shows coming up, on August 4 and August 5 in Las Vegas.

ROB ZOMBIE: 'I Don't Really Think About Music When I'm Not Working On It'
Darryl Sterdan of the QMI Agency recently conducted an interview with rocker-turned-director Rob Zombie. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

QMI Agency: What percentage of your time, energy and brainpower goes to film vs. music these days?

Rob: It's pretty evenly split. It probably takes more brainpower for directing, in the sense that when I'm on tour, unless I'm writing music, the music doesn't take a lot of thought. You just have to physically be there and play the shows and tour. But while I'm doing that, I'm always working on setting up the next film or project or working on a script on a day off in a hotel room. So the films are always sort of lingering in my mind. The music, not so much. I don't really think about music when I'm not working on it. But it gets harder and harder to compartmentalize them. I've thrown myself deeper into the music in the past couple of years, so they clash a little more than they used to.

QMI Agency: Why did you return to music in such a big way? Clearly you have a good thing going in film.

Rob: Well, I like doing both. And I felt that for the past bunch of years, I was letting the music slide in some sense. I just didn't want to do that anymore. I love my band. We've all been reinspired. So I've made it clear to management and agents that we're going to approach this as if it's the only thing we do. And I have. We've been touring around the world nonstop, playing places I haven't been to in a long time because the movies would get in the way of that. The biggest challenge is that there's only so much time.

QMI Agency: In hindsight, do you wish you hadn't swung the pendulum so far toward film work?

Rob: I don't think it was possible to do it any other way, truthfully. I slacked off on music because the band I had at the time had become kind of a miserable situation. There was just too much infighting and too much of that nonsense that always takes place. And that was when I had just started doing films. And I just couldn't take the high-school mentality you always get into with bands. So that just naturally took me out of it. But when I refired the band up with new people and had a better attitude, I just naturally found my way into doing it more.

Slipknot ready to bring the thunder to Knebworth
Corey Taylor is humbled by the idea of a two minute silence for Gray at Sonisphere, but promises a big bang for the fans.

Corey Taylor has revealed fans who catch Slipknot’s main stage act at Knebworth this weekend are in for a special treat as the Iowa metallers are planning on bringing out the boom boom.

Slipknot have been blazing a trail across Europe in recent weeks as part of the Sonisphere touring festival but frontman Taylor has hinted that the band are plotting an explosive performance for their UK fans on Sunday.

Speaking to Radio One’s Daniel P Carter backstage at Sonsisphere Finland, Taylor said: “We’ve done a handful of these and it’s been good with good feedback and a good way for us to say thank you to the kids and celebrate with everybody.

“(At Knebworth) We’re going to have huge booms, fire, Corey makes big boom go boom. We’ve got a really good set together which really celebrates the whole career. It’s very much about the audience, getting them into it and giving something to them and putting on a good, old-school Slipknot show. Enjoying it for what it is. The fans have really been responding to it so far.”

Taylor also spoke with great pride at the planned two minute silence for his late band mate Paul Gray who died last year.

He said: “At Knebworth at 2pm on the 10th we are going to observe a two minute silence for Paul – in honour of him. I’m really, really glad that everyone has responded to it and are ready to join us for it.

“It’s gonna be pretty heavy and I’m looking forward to feeling that. There’s something to be said about that which is so loud and so much louder than this band. It’ll be good for everyone to pay their respect.”

I'm very happy to be able to say that I'm back!

Being able to stay at home for the past few months have given my family and I the opportunity adjust to what happened last year and I know it's done us all a lot of good.

After missing out on the few tours that the guys did without me I felt pretty bad about not being a part of the band anymore, it was something that I constantly thought about but I knew that I needed to take at least some time off to deal with things back home.

Now things are moving forward for my family and this is what I need to be doing!

I also want to thank you all for the support you gave me when it was announced that I was leaving the band, it really meant a lot and helped me through a pretty rough time!

Rammstein Announcement: Tour Dates Spring 2012
Rammstein have announced details of an arena tour, which is set to take place early next year.
The band will release a 20-track compilation CD/DVD, titled Made In Germany 1995 - 2011, prior to the six-date trek. The album is expected to include one brand new track, Mein Land, as well as choice cuts from their career.

Wilco Unveil Album Art and Full Details

News about Wilco's eighth studio album has been leaking out for the past few weeks, but now we have official details: The Whole Love, the Chicago band's follow-up to 2009's Grammy-nominated Wilco (The Album), will drop on September 27 via their own newly launched label, dBpm Records. Check out the LP's cover art here.

The Whole Love was recorded at Wilco's Windy City studio/club house/HQ, The Loft, and features 12 tracks. Frontman Jeff Tweedy and multi-instrumentalist Patrick Sansone teamed with Tom Schick (Rufus Wainwright, Paul McCartney) on production duties.

The Whole Love is bookended by a pair of longer epics, the seven-minute opener "Art of Almost" and the 12-minute closer "One Sunday Morning (Song For Jane Smiley's Boyfriend)." "I Might," a folk fuzz-bomb, is the first single. Listen to it here.

Wilco also debuted two more tracks live at their Solid Sound Festival last weekend: "Born Alone," a driving number with anthemic guitar lines courtesy of Nels Cline, and "Dawned on Me," an upbeat jam with a solid backbeat and organ accompaniment. Watch video of both performances here.

AUGUST BURNS RED Frontman Interviewed By 'Inside Heavy'
Inside Heavy recently conducted an interview with vocalist Jake Luhrs of the Lancaster, Pennsylvania-based Christian metalcore quintet AUGUST BURNS RED. AUGUST BURNS RED's fourth album, "Leveler", was released on June 21 via Sollid State Records. The effort was made available in both regular and deluxe editions — a first for the band.

For "Leveler", AUGUST BURNS RED re-teamed with producer Jason Suecof, the man behind the board on the band's previous CD, 2009's "Constellations", which landed at No. 24 on The Billboard 200 and sold more than 90,000 copies. The result is an album that pushes the band's sonic boundaries in every direction, yet emerges as an unquestionably heavier album than its predecessor.

"Putting out a fourth record is a little scary because we obviously have our sound figured out at this point, but we don't want to put out a record that just sounds like a redux of our previous albums," explains guitarist JB Brubaker. "Our tastes are always evolving as musicians and we've been motivated to progress as a band and push ABR in different directions, while maintaining the characteristics that made us the band we are in the first place."

While AUGUST BURNS RED has never succumbed to the artistic trends in metal album covers, "Leveler" represents an even larger departure than fans have seen on the band's previous albums. The artwork, created by artist Jordan Crane, brings a striking comic book flair that the band wanted the artwork to encompass.

SUICIDE SILENCE Frontman: 'We're Here Because We Love Playing Music, And That's It'
Scott Sugarman of Rock Edition recently conducted an interview with guitarist Mark Heylmun and vocalist Mitch Lucker of California deathcore masters SUICIDE SILENCE. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Rock Edition: Let's talk about "The Black Crown" a bit. Did you guys approach the writing and recording process differently than with "No Time To Bleed"?

Mark: Yeah, we did. First, it started off as just conversation and talking about what we wanted to do. It wasn't really even writing; it was just talking and getting on the same page. That turned into a month-long trip to a cabin in the mountains in the snow that we lived in together. [We] set up a little studio and jammed and got all of our ideas and basically got onto the right page with each other and got the mojo of writing together. From there, it was just like we knew what we wanted to do, and then whenever we had free time together off tour, we would write. We're not really a band that writes on tour a lot. We might write a riff or two while we're on tour, but we don't really write songs while we're on the road. Every time we could, while we were home, it was just me and our other guitar player, [Chris] Garza. We would just get together and write a ton of riffs, and we would just have — literally, before we sat back down with Alex or with Dan or Mitch — we just had at least three hours of just riffs and parts. Not even songs, just little doodads here and there that we could use as songs. Once we got together, it all came together really fast.

Rock Edition: So you just transferred all those guitar parts over to the rest of the band?

Mark: Yeah. It wasn't like we had a bunch of riffs and we just pieced it together. We didn't just go this riff, this riff into this riff into this riff into that riff. A lot of the stuff would be kind of similar because it was like, "Oh, we obviously wrote this stuff, these few riffs, in the same day." They sounded like they would be in the same song. We would take two or three riffs and then — we even, at one point, took a bunch of riffs and said, "These all sound like intros." We labeled them as intros, and we labeled other things like, "This sounds like a good chorus, or this sounds like a verse or this sounds like a bridge." We were just labeling things as what we thought they might be good as. It was definitely a lot different than the writing process for "The Cleansing" and "No Time to Bleed". Another reason why we went to the cabin was because we got a new bass player [Dan Kenny], and we had never written with him. We wanted to get a good sit down with all of us together so he could see how we work, and we could see how he worked with us. It was all different. We even were talking about it, like, "How the fuck did we even write the first two records?" We couldn't even remember. We didn't even know how it happened, just because this was so much different. [laughs]

Rock Edition: You guys have also said that this is going to be your last release from Century Media.

Mitch: No, it's not our last release from Century Media; it's just that contractually, this is the last record we're signed up for. It doesn't mean we're leaving, necessarily, because they're an amazing label, and they've done amazing things for us, and we fucking love them. It doesn't mean it's our last record with them at all.

Rock Edition: So have you started to think about what you're going to do once that contract is fulfilled?

Mitch: Yeah, we've been looking around, seeing what's up. Other people have looked into us, seeing what's up with us. We're just going to keep our fucking eyes open and see where it goes. Especially with this just being our third full-length record coming out, who knows what it can do? It can do terrible; it can do good. So we've just got our fingers crossed, and we always look up. We never try to think about what's going to happen. We're always just, "Let's go. Let's do it. Let's run up this fucking hill as fast as we can."

Mark: Especially since who knows what's going on with the industry nowadays. A lot of bands, I think, don't even need a label, and I think a lot of times, a bigger band will be done with their contract and — I'm talking about bands that are bigger than us — and they'll go to another label and then realize that it was just a bad idea to sign another contract because then they're just stuck in whatever they have to do within the contract. I think that KILLSWITCH [ENGAGE] is a good example of that, and that's kind of why you don't hear about them anymore. I think it kind of tore them apart.

Rock Edition: Do you think you would ever try to go the do-it-yourself way of distribution?

Mitch: Being a young band, I think that would be a hard thing to do, but at the same time, the industry's not what it used to be. Everything's completely different. It's almost like you have to keep your fingers crossed and just jump in to some things because you don't know what the outcome's going to be. You don't know if this label's going to work out for you, or if your own label's going to work out for you. You gotta do it, do it because you love it, and hope it works out. That's basically it. We're here not because we're on this label or that label; we're here because we're a fucking band and we like to jam. That's it. Think about when you're a little kid and you've got a garage band. How fun is that? We're here because we love playing music, and that's it.

SONISPHERE will host SLIPKNOT’s first UK performance since the tragic passing of bass player PAUL GRAY, at KNEBWORTH on July 10th, where they close the APOLLO ARENA stage. The band would like to invite all the maggots in attendance to join them in paying their respects.

At 2pm on the Sunday, a two minute silence, led from the SATURN ARENA stage, will fall over the whole arena and all the stages at KNEBWORTH, so fans can pay tribute to SLIPKNOT’s number 2. Fans will also be able to leave a more personal tribute in the book of rememberance that will be left at the Metal Hammer signing tent for the duration of the weekend.

The giant, leather-bound book will be open to those who wish to leave their own obituaries, thoughts or drawings, from midday to midnight each day. The book will be passed to SLIPKNOT at the end of the festival on Sunday night.

LACUNA COIL: "Dark Adrenaline" - New Album Title Revealed
LACUNA COIL has set "Dark Adrenaline" as the title of its new album, due in October via Century Media Records. The follow-up to 2009's "Shallow Life" is once again being helmed by producer Don Gilmore (PEARL JAM, LINKIN PARK, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE), with the band this time choosing to record in its native Italy to help focus on the more personal nature of the new material.
"This time around music has been our refuge from some of the darkest days of our life and that's why the new songs have such a variety of feelings... some stuff is pretty angry, probably the heaviest we've ever written, some other songs are intense, loaded with velvet dark emotions and there's even a little space for some light at the end of the tunnel," says LACUNA COIL's male vocalist Andrea Ferro.

"People are asking me if we're going back to our roots or if we're taking another step forward in a new direction... Well, to be honest I just feel that this is 100 percent a LACUNA COIL record and that is what really matters to me. I just love the songs and we felt a big wave of inspiration. The energy with Don in the studio is sky-high and we're ready to kick some ass."

"Collectively, we did so much in between 'Shallow Life' and this one," adds LACUNA COIL's female vocalist Cristina Scabbia. "We have lots of different experiences between us. We've been loved and hurt, we grew up, we shrunk inside a little keeping ourselves together and our roots watered and are alive. I still can't believe that the energy in between us is getting better and better, but I guess that's what being a real family means."

Regarding the musical direction of the new songs, Ferro stated last month, "Some stuff is . . . probably the heaviest we have ever written. But then we have some cool songs with a dark, 'old-school' vibe, and then some other rocking songs which are a bit more modern and anthemic sounding." Scabbia added, "I just want you all to listen to it 'cause I think the old fans will be pleased as well as the new one fans. The collection of songs is the perfect balance between an older and a newer style of rock metal — with a heavy punch and melancholic shadows."

Once LACUNA COIL completes the recording sessions for the new album, the band will spend the summer performing at a select number of European festivals, including Greenfield, Graspop Metal Meeting and Sonisphere in Spain.

When asked how the new material is sounding, Cristina said in a 2010 interview with Kerrang! magazine, "It's still a rock sound. I like the direction we took on 'Shallow Life' and this is going to be in that vein. I still love metal to death, but at this point I like rock more. I like being able to bring different things that are not necessarily from metal to the album because I like the contamination between sounds. I like that music is always evolving and that you can be free to take sounds and mix them together."

Regarding whether there are any other surprises in store, Cristina said, "At this stage I actually don't know. We don't plan that, because in some ways I like to stay with that classic sound and in some other ways I like to do something completely different and surprise people. I've learned over the years that you cannot make everyone happy. If you stay classic, there will be some who say you're not innovative, and if you're innovative, people will complain that you sold out or you went off the rails. I can honestly say I don't care anymore. We want to be free to do whatever we want. We love rock and roll and we love metal, but we don't want to put any limitations on what we might make."

We Are The Ocean - Run Away - New Single
Loughton post-hardcore quintet We Are The Ocean have posted a video for their forthcoming single, Runaway.
The single - which will be released on July 18 - is the latest track to be taken from the band's current album, Go Now And Live.
